Light, crisp and irresistibly golden, our ebi tempura brings a touch of refined Japanese craft to any catering table. Each prawn is straightened, dipped in a cold, airy batter, and fried just until the coating turns lacy and pale-gold while the prawn inside stays plump and sweet. Served with a warm tentsuyu dip, it is a guaranteed favourite.
What ebi tempura is
Ebi means prawn, and tempura is the Japanese art of deep-frying seafood and vegetables in a delicate batter. The secret is in the technique: ice-cold batter, hot oil and a quick fry that produces a feather-light crust rather than a heavy coating. Done well, tempura is crisp, never greasy, and lets the natural sweetness of the prawn shine.
How our ebi tempura is prepared
Our Japanese culinary team fries each piece fresh from our central kitchen. The preparation includes:
- Large prawns peeled, deveined and scored so they stay straight when fried
- A cold, lightly mixed tempura batter for that signature crisp lattice
- Frying at a precise temperature for an even, golden finish
- A warm tentsuyu dipping sauce with grated daikon on the side
How we serve ebi tempura for catering
Tempura adapts to every format. On a platter the prawns stand upright for an elegant presentation; in a buffet they sit in a tray for self-service; in a bento they make a premium side alongside rice and pickles. We usually plan one to two prawns per guest as a side. View the full menu, add it to a Japanese buffet, or build out a bento catering order.
What to pair with ebi tempura
Tempura pairs beautifully with both warm and cool dishes. A bowl of udon, fresh sashimi, or a clean rice bowl all complement the crisp prawns. For a complete spread, combine it with our sushi and sashimi platters or our udon noodle bar for a tempura-udon pairing guests love.
Dietary notes
Our kitchen is strictly No Pork, No Lard, so there is no pork or lard in this dish. We are not halal-certified. Ebi tempura contains shellfish, and the batter contains wheat, gluten and egg; the dip contains soy. Please flag any allergies when you enquire and we will advise.
